Elon Musk's social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter, will officially close its longtime San Francisco headquarters. The date is set, according to a report.
A source told Fortune that X informed employees via email on Thursday. The Market Street office will close on September 13, which happens to be a Friday.
Last month, Musk announced the move of X and SpaceX's global headquarters out of California. This decision followed Gov. Gavin Newsom's signing of a bill that bars schools from notifying parents about their children's gender identity.
Musk stated that X's headquarters would relocate to Austin, Texas. He also announced that SpaceX would move from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas. Musk cited the gender identity law as "the final straw," attributing the move to this law and others that he believes attack families and companies.
Musk has long been critical of California's policies. His migration to Texas reflects his preference for a more business-friendly environment.
In late 2021, Musk officially moved Tesla's global headquarters from California to Austin. This came after conflicts with California's government over strict COVID-19 restrictions.
