According to data from Show Buzz Daily, the debut of "Fox News Tonight" - the program that took the place of "Tucker Carlson Tonight" - resulted in a decline in ratings among the crucial age group of 25 to 54 years old, during its first episode on Monday evening.
On Monday morning, Fox News unexpectedly terminated its relationship with Tucker Carlson, who was the network's leading host in primetime and hosted "Tucker Carlson Tonight" every weekday at 8 p.m. Brian Kilmeade took over as host of the new program, but according to Show Buzz Daily's rating data, it received lower ratings among the crucial age demographic on its debut night compared to Carlson's average from the previous week, which was on Monday, April 17.
According to the data, the new program received a rating of 0.24 in the 25-54 age group, whereas Carlson's show had a rating of 0.37 in the same age group on April 17. In terms of total viewership, the new program had an average of almost 2.6 million viewers, which was lower than Carlson's show on Monday which had an average of approximately 3.7 million viewers.

When Carlson hosted his final episode on Friday, April 21, it drew in a total of 2.65 million viewers, surpassing the viewership of CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360" and MSNBC's "All In With Chris Hayes." As per Adweek, in 2022, "Tucker Carlson Tonight" secured the second position in total cable news viewership with 3.3 million viewers, only behind Fox News' non-primetime program, "The Five."
For the past few years, Fox News has consistently been the leader in cable news ratings, outperforming its primary competitors, CNN and MSNBC. Carlson's program has been a significant contributor to this success, regularly surpassing multi-million total viewership and outpacing the network's other shows.
According to The New York Times (NYT), from 2017 to 2020, Carlson had the second-highest ratings among Fox News shows, trailing only Sean Hannity's program that aired at 9 p.m. In 2020, "Tucker Carlson Tonight" had a viewership of over 4 million, which is one of the highest ratings ever achieved in the history of cable news, as reported by the same outlet.
As per The New York Times (NYT), Carlson's program was the highest-rated show among the crucial age group of 25 to 54 years old. The reason for Fox News' decision to terminate its relationship with Carlson has not been disclosed by the network. However, Fox News did release a statement on Monday thanking him for his contributions as a host and contributor.
Following the announcement of Carlson's departure, conservatives and his supporters expressed their disapproval of Fox News, with some cautioning that the network would face repercussions since Carlson was their most popular and significant host.
