New data from the Howard University Initiative on Public Opinion offers insight into Black voters' support ahead of the 2024 election. The poll shows an overwhelming majority of Black voters in seven swing states favor Vice President Kamala Harris over former President Trump.
An impressive 82% of respondents said they backed Harris, while only 12% supported Trump. Around 5% of voters were undecided, with the remaining 1% planning to vote for another candidate.
The data highlights significant age differences. A huge 89% of Black voters over 50 supported Harris, compared to 8% for Trump and 4% for other candidates.
Younger Black voters also mostly backed Harris at 75%, but support for Trump rose to 16%, with 9% supporting alternative candidates.
The difference was stark among men — men under 50 broke 72% to 21% for Harris, while men over 50 favored her 88% to 10%.
The poll surveyed 1,000 Black voters over 18, in swing states like Georgia and Pennsylvania, with a margin of error of ±3.1%. These voters were contacted via landline, cellphone, and text-to-web between Sept. 4-11.
