MSNBC host Symone Sanders-Townsend issued a warning Saturday about the Trump administration’s deportation tactics.
She said “people of color” could be next after the removal of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Garcia, 29, was deported to the CECOT prison in El Salvador last month.
Officials said the deportation was an “administrative error.” But Trump allies now claim he was rightly removed and tied to MS-13 — a charge his attorneys deny.
Sanders-Townsend raised the issue on “The Weekend” with Michael Steele and Rep. Glen Ivey, D-Md. She stressed this wasn’t just about immigration.
Referencing a Janai Nelson op-ed, she said democracies can be dismantled “brick by brick.” She argued that the handling of Garcia’s case reflects that.
“But to me, that is why Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s specific case... is so important,” she said. She also mentioned others without criminal records sent to the same prison.
“If they can do it to them... they will do it to any of us,” she warned. “To be very clear, it’s going to be the people of color, and vulnerable communities that are next in line.”
Rep. Ivey agreed, linking the situation to fears in the Black community. “If they are going to whisk them away, what are they going to do with us?” he said.
The segment aired just as the Supreme Court temporarily blocked Trump’s plan to deport Venezuelan migrants. The deportations were based on the Alien Enemies Act of 1798.
