New House Speaker Doesn't Back Down From His Faith: 'I Make No Apologies'

Recently-appointed House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) shared with Fox News anchor Sean Hannity on Thursday that the core of his beliefs can be understood by "simply reading a Bible from your shelf."

After three tumultuous weeks and considering three other candidates, Johnson, who garnered full backing from his Republican colleagues, succeeded the previous House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA). During his conversation with Hannity, he discussed his vision for refocusing the House of Representatives' agenda.

Check it out:

“Someone asked me today in the media, they said, ‘It’s curious, people are curious. What does Mike Johnson think about any issue under the sun?'” Johnson said to Sean Hannity, describing the scrutiny he's facing from the media.

“I said, ‘Well, go pick up a Bible off your shelf and read it – that’s my worldview.’ That’s what I believe and so I make no apologies for it,” he said.

“That’s your personal worldview,” Hannity pressed, and Johnson doubled down: “That’s my personal worldview.”

In his inaugural speech as House Speaker, Johnson referenced his Bible, expressing to fellow Congress members his conviction that they are all divinely inspired to utilize their talents to serve the interests of the American citizens.

Johnson was among a select group of House representatives who opted to offer prayers during the Speaker's election in January. This was a time when McCarthy faced multiple rounds of voting before eventually securing the position.
