Eligible Amazon Customers Face July 27 Deadline To Get Refund

Amazon Prime customers may still have time to claim part of a $2.5 billion settlement, with eligible refunds reaching as high as $51. The filing deadline is July 27, 2026, and only certain U.S. customers who meet the settlement rules can submit a claim.

To qualify, customers must have signed up through one of the enrollment flows challenged by the FTC, or unsuccessfully tried to cancel online, between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025. They also must have used more than three but fewer than 10 Prime benefits during any 12-month period of enrollment and must not have already received an automatic refund.

Claims are filed through the official settlement website, and approved payments may be issued by check, PayPal or Venmo. The FTC says payments are expected to go out in late 2026, but filing a claim does not guarantee approval or payment.

The settlement stems from FTC allegations that Amazon enrolled customers in Prime without informed consent and made cancellation difficult. Amazon agreed in September 2025 to place $1.5 billion into a consumer refund fund and pay a separate $1 billion civil penalty, while not admitting wrongdoing.

The settlement also requires changes to Amazon’s enrollment and cancellation process. Those changes include clearer disclosures and an easier way for customers to decline or cancel Prime.

The agency is also warning consumers about refund scams. Neither the FTC nor Amazon will require payment to release a refund, and customers should be cautious of anyone promising guaranteed approval or special access.
