EA Sports is said to be removing the CPR celebration from the Madden video game, following the incident involving Damar Hamlin last Monday. Hamlin required CPR on the field after he collapsed during the first quarter of the Buffalo Bills' away game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
According to TMZ, a representative for the game stated that the celebration will be removed through an upcoming online update for "Madden 23" in the near future.
The celebration set to be removed from the game featured a touchdown scorer lying on the field, with a teammate acting as if they were performing CPR.
Even though the CPR celebration is being removed from the video game, it is still present in the NFL.
During their victory against the Cleveland Browns last weekend, some players of the Pittsburgh Steelers performed the CPR celebration, only a week after the incident involving Hamlin happened.
Steelers' Linebacker Alex Highsmith apologized for the celebration the day after the game, He stated that it had no relation to the incident involving Hamlin.
“I just don’t want people to think of me that way and think I was doing anything [intentional]. Because I would never, ever, ever, ever want to do that intentionally, and I never, ever would do that,” Highsmith admitted.
Highsmith continued, “I just want people to know that I have nothing but love for Damar and his family. When that happened, I was shook for a couple days. Me and my wife, we were watching the game, we immediately saw it and intentionally started praying. Intentionally prayed for him, his parents, the doctors, the nurses.”
The CPR celebration has been present in the recent versions of the Madden franchise.
