Democrat House Candidate in Tight Race Caught Trying to Pull a Fast One on American Voters

Democrat Rebecca Bennett, running for Congress in New Jersey’s 7th District, has deleted several old social media posts as she works to present herself as a moderate candidate in a Republican-leaning area.

Bennett, a Navy veteran and Air National Guard member, is running in the Democratic primary to unseat Republican Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. The race is rated “Lean Republican” by the Cook Political Report. Local media have described Bennett as a moderate, but her online history tells a different story.

Fox News Digital reviewed Bennett’s X account, which recently changed from @BigRedBecks to @RebeccaForNJ07. Several deleted posts expressed support for progressive figures like Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Vice President Kamala Harris.

In 2019, she posted “Love her” in response to Warren, and praised a Warren video mashup with a Taylor Swift song, saying, “I love everything about this.” Both posts have since been removed.

Bennett also deleted a celebratory post from 2020 when Harris was announced as Biden’s running mate, writing “Let’s Goooooo.” Another deleted post called Sen. Cory Booker the “best senator.”

During the George Floyd protests in 2020, Bennett posted agreement with David Plouffe’s call for House Democrats to investigate law enforcement responses to the riots. That post is gone too. She also deleted a message supporting then-Rep. Jason Crow during Trump’s first impeachment trial.

Despite these past posts, her campaign announcement video avoids mentioning her Democratic affiliation. Critics have called this an attempt to rebrand.

“It’s clear Rebecca Bennett is desperately trying to run away from her past,” said NRCC spokeswoman Maureen O’Toole. “She can’t be trusted.”

Bennett’s campaign pushed back, saying Republicans are threatened by her candidacy. “Rebecca and her campaign will continue to ignore recycled bad faith attacks,” said campaign advisor Dan Bryan.

Bennett isn’t the first New Jersey Democrat to face scrutiny for scrubbing social media. Sue Altman, who lost to Kean in 2024, was similarly criticized for deleting posts about law enforcement.

With Republicans holding only a five-seat majority in the House, the NJ-07 race is expected to be one of the most closely watched contests in 2026.
