On Wednesday, Andrew Bates, the White House deputy press secretary, faced backlash for sharing a video from an online account that disparaged President Joe Biden.
Bates shared a video of White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre that had originally been uploaded by Greg Price, former Daily Caller social media coordinator and now senior digital strategist at XStrategies LLC. Prior to sharing the clip, Price had briefly changed his account username to "Joe Biden Showered With His Daughter," leading to an apparent label beneath Bates' post.
Bates appears to have retweeted Price's initial post featuring the video without acknowledging the username at the time.

On Thursday afternoon at a press briefing, Jean-Pierre expressed her anger with what she perceived to be unfounded criticisms of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg regarding his handling of the train derailment and chemical spill in East Palestine, Ohio.
Jean-Pierre noted the many negative attacks made against Secretary Buttigieg. She was previously the head of the Department of Transportation, yet when there were chemical spills nobody called for her resignation," Jean-Pierre lamented.
After delaying public statements for ten days, Buttigieg faced intense scrutiny for his handling of the crisis. On Thursday - twenty days since its derailment on February 3rd - he finally visited East Palestine site.
On Tuesday, Buttigieg acknowledged in an interview that he "could have spoken out earlier" following the crisis.
"Our department was on the ground within hours, helping with response and investigation," he said. "While I respect the separate role of [National Transportation Safety Board], we've been there from day one to ensure we're doing our part to support. I do think it's important to speak out about this - I wish I had done so sooner - and we are focused on taking actions that will make a difference."
