Small businesses in America are struggling. "Bar Rescue" host Jon Taffer sounded the alarm on Saturday's "One Nation with Brian Kilmeade."
Taffer, who has revived many failing businesses, told Kilmeade that rising costs and declining customer traffic are causing havoc. Many restaurants are left with no choice but to declare bankruptcy.
"I drive through downtown areas and see empty stores," Taffer said. "I don't just see stores. I see broken families and shattered dreams. The impact is devastating."
He emphasized that prosperity is crucial, regardless of political views. "No side can push any agenda without prosperity," he said. "Our government seems almost against small business now. Without protecting these businesses, how do we keep unemployment low? How do we sustain our tax base for growth?"
Taffer warned, "Everything collapses without prosperity, and we are facing policies that undermine our ability to achieve it. We need change."
His remarks followed a discussion about former President Trump's promise to eliminate taxes on tips for service workers if re-elected. The proposal gained traction in recent months.
Vice President Harris echoed the pledge during a rally in Las Vegas, leading Trump to accuse her of copying the idea.
Taffer praised the proposal, calling it a "win-win" for both workers and customers.
"Sure it does [help service industry workers]," he said. "It essentially puts 25% or more of the tips back in their pocket. As a consumer, I like knowing that 100% of my tip goes to the employee. It’s a win-win, giving our workers a substantial raise they take home every night. That’s fantastic."
