Cracker Barrel won't be able to assist you in finding a wooden rocking chair in the Portland, Oregon region as the national breakfast and cornbread chain recently announced the closure of its stores due to economic factors.
The city of Portland has been experiencing a decline that has been acknowledged even by the Los Angeles Times. Other businesses like Walmart, Applebees, and Starbucks are also either closing down or have plans to do so soon.
“As a standard course of business, we continually evaluate the performance of our stores, using various criteria to ensure we are meeting the needs of our guests and our business,” Cracker Barrel said to Fox Business in a statement.
“With that, we are saddened that we have been unable to overcome the impact the pandemic had on our business and have made the difficult decision to close the Beaverton, Tualatin, and Bend locations on March 20. The decision to close a store is never one we take lightly, and our focus right now is in assisting our impacted employees during this transition.”

Both Walmart and Applebees have used similar wording to announce their own closures in Portland, while Starbucks cited safety concerns when announcing its closures in October. This suggests that national chains do not view remaining in Portland as a viable option.
The situation in Portland is chaotic and seemingly intractable, with no clear solutions in sight due to the resistance of those who hold progressive views. In December, the Los Angeles Times published a feature detailing how the city has declined from a place where safety and order coexisted with progressivism to its current state of destruction.
Despite the ongoing homelessness crisis, the Portland police department has been understaffed by almost 200 sworn officers since 2019. As a result, they are now dealing with a city where shootings have tripled, homicides have reached record levels, car thefts have doubled since 2019, and more citizens are expressing their lack of safety in downtown Portland. Furthermore, the city has lost 2,600 businesses since March 2020.
