Americans Turning to Scandinavian Sleep Trend to Get Better Rest

Over one in five adults in the United States report that they seldom, if ever, feel refreshed upon waking, as revealed by a recent U.S. News & World Report survey.

The data indicates that in 2023, 43% of participants have encountered insomnia, while sleep apnea has affected 17%.

With 1,200 adults surveyed regarding their sleep patterns and quality, the study sheds light on the primary factors contributing to sleep difficulties.

A sleep trend revealed in the study is "Scandinavian Sleeping." This refers to the practice where partners sleep on the same bed but opt for separate comforters or duvets, rather than using shared bedding.

"While most surveyed U.S. adults (59%) prefer sharing a comforter with their partner at night, the remainder (41%) would rather sleep with their own blanket at night, which is commonly referred to as the Scandinavian sleeping method," Haniya Rae, who is a sleep feature editor based in New York for U.S. News & World Report, conveyed to Fox News Digital.

"The Danes, Icelanders, etc. prefer sleeping with their own duvet with no top sheet to fight over," she continued.

"This means both you and your partner can each have your own individual, preferred sleep space in the same bed. No more tugging at the sheets or dealing with a blanket hog."

Harris concurred that employing the Scandinavian sleep method could yield numerous advantages for both sleep quality and general wellness.

"By allowing each partner to regulate their own temperature and choose bedding that meets their personal preferences and needs, the method can significantly reduce sleep disruptions and improve comfort," she said to Fox News.
