On Wednesday Walmart announced that starting July 20 all shoppers will be required to wear face coverings in all stores and clubs across the United States.
The move came in response to coronaviruses surges in some of the biggest states in the country, including California, Florida and Texas.
At this point, about 65% of the more than 5,000 stores and clubs are in locations where face coverings are already mandated. This policy is being put in place to help bring consistency.
“While we’re certainly not the first business to require face coverings, we know this is a simple step everyone can take for their safety and the safety of others in our facilities,” Walmart said in a press release.

There will be a "health ambassador" stationed near the entrance of the stores, wearing a black polo shirt. They will remind people of the mask rule with the assistant of clear signage regarding the policy. If a customer shows up at the store without a mask they will work with them to find a solution.
Stores will have just one entrance. Sam's Club will also have employees at the entrance to remind them of the face covering policy.
“We know it may not be possible for everyone to wear a face covering. Our associates will be trained on those exceptions to help reduce friction for the shopper and make the process as easy as possible for everyone,” it also said in the statement.
