Pizza Hut has officially secured its spot as America's favorite national pizza chain. A new YouGov survey of more than 44,000 diners across the country confirmed the ranking. The legacy brand managed to edge out its top competitor, Domino's, in a closely watched battle of the brands.
The extensive survey was conducted between March 2025 and February 2026. It was released as part of the organization's annual restaurant rankings report. The data showed Pizza Hut earned 19.1 percent of the total votes for best-tasting fast-food pizza.
Domino's followed closely behind in second place with 17.1 percent. Several other national brands rounded out the top tier of the survey. Papa Johns took third place with 11.4 percent, followed by Little Caesars at 5.3 percent and Marco's Pizza at 4.7 percent.
"Pizza Hut's lead over Domino's in our best-tasting pizza rankings suggests the brand continues to benefit from strong long-term affinity among consumers, particularly older Americans who maintain a very positive impression of the chain," Kenton Barello, Chicago-based senior vice president of YouGov, told Fox News Digital.
"There is likely also a nostalgia factor at play, as Pizza Hut has been a familiar part of the American dining landscape for decades," Barello added.
These results underscore how legacy pizza chains continue to deeply resonate with everyday consumers. This connection remains strong even as modern restaurant habits evolve across the nation. Diners are increasingly seeking consistency and familiarity amid a climate of economic uncertainty.

National pizza chains are also facing mounting competition from alternative dining options. This shifting market makes maintaining brand loyalty more critical than ever. Independent local pizzerias and grocery options continue to vie for consumer dollars.
Frozen pizza sales surged to approximately $7 billion in 2024. This massive growth occurred as budget-conscious consumers intentionally cut back on takeout spending.
The survey results also indicate that while national chains dominate marketing visibility, many Americans still prefer local alternatives. They firmly believe the absolute best pizza comes from a spot much closer to home.
More than one in five respondents stated that local or regional brands easily beat out the massive national chains. This shows a strong consumer preference for homegrown businesses over corporate giants.
"One of the more interesting findings is that the single largest share of Americans selected an 'other local or regional brand' over the national chains we tested, highlighting the enduring strength of independent pizzerias," Barello said.
"The broader takeaway for the pizza industry is that while marketing visibility matters, familiarity, emotional connection and consistency continue to play a major role in shaping consumer preference in a highly competitive category," Barello noted.
YouGov's extensive findings carefully analyzed responses from a massive pool of over 44,000 U.S. consumers. The broader report examined shifting consumer attitudes toward fast food and casual dining. It also tracked specific preferences regarding specialty restaurant brands.
For the pizza category specifically, respondents were asked to evaluate the major national players. Eager participants chose which chains they believed truly served the best pizza.
Although Pizza Hut received 19.1 percent of the vote, a significant portion of Americans still prefer regional options. Local pizzerias continue to hold a massive share of the public's heart and appetite.
Pizza Hut was originally founded in Wichita, Kansas, back in 1958 and began franchising just one year later. Now headquartered in Plano, Texas, the company operates nearly 20,000 locations across more than 100 countries.
Domino's opened its very first restaurant in Ypsilanti, Michigan, just two years after Pizza Hut started. The rival chain has since grown into a massive global powerhouse.
The company was originally called DomiNick's Pizza before being officially renamed Domino's in 1965. It opened its first franchise location in 1967 and quickly expanded.
Domino's now boasts more than 22,300 locations worldwide, according to its corporate website. The battle for supremacy between these two iconic American brands remains as fierce as ever.
