On Friday, Representative Matt Gaetz announced that he has no plans to step down after it became known that the Department of Justice is investigating him for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old girl.
Gaetz denies the rumors that he plans to resign and said it’s “very safe” to say he does not have any intention of doing so. The Florida lawmaker also denies any inappropriate relationships as well.
The Hill reports:
The New York Times first reported the investigation was taking place on Tuesday evening, with a second report emerging Thursday detailing accusations that he and a former Florida county tax collector, Joel Greenberg, paid multiple women who were recruited for sex online.
Gaetz — one of former President Trump’s most vocal allies in Congress — has vehemently denied he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl, stating during an interview with Fox News’s Tucker Carlson that he is being accused of having relations with a teenager that “does not exist."
The Florida Republican alleged that he and his family are targets in an extortion scheme from a former DOJ official seeking millions of dollars to make the accusations disappear.
“The New York Times is running a story that I have traveled with a 17-year-old woman, and that is verifiably false,” Gaetz told Fox News on Tuesday. “People can look at my travel records and see that that is not the case.”
“What is happening is an extortion of me and my family involving a former Department of Justice official,” he added.

‘Captain Underpants’ Children’s Books Cancelled for ‘Passive Racism’
Just another day in the day and age of cancel culture! Today they are cancelling the children’s book series “Captain Underpants.” The books are being pulled from libraries and book shelves after its publishes declared it “perpetuates passive racism.”
I read those books when I was in middle school, and I truly do not remember anything in them that could even be close to racist. Then again, everything today is racist. Just the character wearing white underwear is probably “racist” to the left.
