Popular Grocery Chain Announces Plan for Expansion With 180 New U.S. Stores

Budget-friendly grocery giant ALDI is launching a massive American expansion. The company announced Monday it will open more than 180 new stores by the end of 2026.

The move will push the chain’s total footprint to nearly 2,800 locations this year. ALDI aims to operate approximately 3,200 stores nationwide by the end of 2028.

This growth comes as American families look for relief from high everyday expenses. ALDI reported that 17 million new customers visited their stores in 2025 alone.

ALDI U.S. CEO Atty McGrath stated the goal is to make shopping even easier. "That means bringing ALDI to even more neighborhoods," McGrath said in a formal statement.

The chain is famous for its "no-frills" model to keep prices low. They use private-label products and a quarter-deposit system for shopping carts to reduce labor costs.

Colorado will see a major influx of new locations. More than 50 stores are planned for Denver and Colorado Springs, supported by a new distribution center.

The grocer is also moving into Maine for the first time. The first store in that state is scheduled to open in the city of Portland during 2026.

Arizona is another key target for the "America First" expansion. Ten new stores will open in Phoenix this year, with a goal of 40 total by 2030.

In Las Vegas, the company plans to double its current store count within four years. ALDI is also continuing a aggressive push into the Southeast market.

The company is converting nearly 80 Southeastern Grocers locations to the ALDI format in 2026. They plan to convert more than 200 total stores by the end of 2027.

New distribution centers are also planned for Florida and Arizona. These facilities are critical to keeping shelves stocked as the footprint grows.

The expansion marks ALDI’s 50th year of operation in the United States. The company believes its affordable model is perfectly suited for the current economic climate.
