According to a Sunday CBS News/YouGov poll, many Americans are worried about the direction the country is heading in under President Joe Biden's leadership in 2023.
The majority of Americans (71%) reported feeling either "scared" or "angry" about the direction of the country in 2023. Of those respondents, 49% said they feel "scared" and 22% said they feel "angry." In contrast, only 11% of respondents said they are "excited" about the direction of the country in 2023.
The study revealed that only 7% of respondents believe that things are going very well under President Joe Biden's leadership, while 30% said that things are going very badly.
Many Americans are feeling pessimistic about several specific issues, including the cost of goods (70%), United States politics (70%), prospects for peace and stability in the world (63%), and the stock market (59%).
The survey results showed that a majority of respondents (56%) believe that President Joe Biden's economy is getting worse, while only 21% said it is getting better.
According to Bloomberg, inflation caused American households to pay an additional $5,200 on average in 2022, or approximately $433 per month. Moody's projected that this cost would be $5,520 per year.

Respondents believed that lawmakers' top priorities should be lowering inflation (76%), reducing crime (63%), and working towards American energy independence (54%).
This poll surveyed 2,144 Americans from January 4-6, with a margin of error of 2.9 points.
