Liberal New York lawmakers want to add a very invasive screening to the handgun permit application. They're looking to screen their social media accounts to make sure they are worthy of carrying a handgun.
Legislators in Albany approved a complete overhaul of state licensing regulations. One of the new requirements is the applicant hand over a list of their social media accounts so they can be analyzed over the last three years. This is to verify their "character and conduct."
“New Yorkers’ constitutional freedoms were just trampled on,” state Republican Chair Nick Langworthy said.

Many claim this violates not only the 2nd Amendment but also freedom of speech. It's very likely this is something that could be handed right back to the Supreme Court.
The right's argument has long been that if gun control works, then why aren't places like Chicago and New York the safest places in the country?
New York has some of the strictest gun laws in the entire nation.
If gun laws make us safer, then why is New York completely crime ridden?

Gun Control in New York
In New York, gun control laws are some of the strictest in the country. In order to purchase a firearm, residents must first obtain a gun license from their local police department or county clerk's office. The gun license application process includes a background check and fingerprinting. Once the license is issued, residents must register their firearms with the state.
There are a number of restrictions on who can possess firearms in New York. For example, it is illegal for felons, people with certain mental health conditions, and individuals under the age of 21 to possess firearms. There are also restrictions on the types of firearms that can be owned, such as assault weapons. In addition, New York has a "red flag" law that allows family members or law enforcement to petition for the removal of firearms from individuals who are deemed to be a danger to themselves or others.
