In a recent interview, Dwyane Wade revealed that he no longer resides in South Florida despite having led the Miami Heat to three NBA championships over a span of more than 14 full seasons.
During an interview with Rachel Nichols on "Headliners", Wade shared that he and his family decided to leave Florida due to concerns about their comfort level. He implied that the decision was related to recent legislation prohibiting school personnel or external parties from teaching "sexual orientation" or "gender identity" in kindergarten through third grade classrooms.
Democrats have nicknamed the "Don't Say Gay" bill, which was approved last year, despite falsely alleging that it prohibits all conversations related to homosexuality in schools throughout the state. In February of last year, President Biden referred to it as a "hateful bill".
Following the announcement that his 15-year-old child, Zaya, identified as a transgender girl, Dwyane Wade went to court in Los Angeles and successfully obtained legal approval to change Zaya's name and gender, despite opposition from her biological mother.
"That's another reason why I don't live in that state," Wade told Nicholas, via People. "A lot of people don't know that. I have to make decisions for my family, not just personal, individual decisions," Wade continues.
"I mean, obviously, the tax [situation] is great. Having Wade County is great. But my family would not be accepted or feel comfortable there. And so that's one of the reasons why I don't live there."

Dwyane Wade's former spouse, Siohvaughn Funches-Wade, had blocked the issuance of an updated birth certificate for Zaya, but the basketball superstar argued that it was in his daughter's "best interest."
