The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) announced on Wednesday it canceled 58 contracts, saving over $150 million for taxpayers.
In a post on X, the agency, led by Elon Musk, revealed the cancellations targeted media, DEI, and consulting contracts across several agencies, including Homeland Security and Transportation.
“58 cancellations with savings of >$150M in categories including Media, DEI, and Consulting,” the post read. “This includes $405K at DHS for ‘resilience, energy, and sustainability management program support services’ and ~4M at DoT for ‘DEIA program and project management support services.’”
Later that night, DOGE confirmed the Department of Education cut about $9 million in contracts that did little to help students.
Those contracts included $4.6 million to organize meetings, $3 million for a report showing prior reports weren’t used, and $1.4 million to observe mailing and clerical operations.
DOGE called the cuts a "good start."
"We want every dollar spent to improve education for kids – not go toward conferences and reports on reports," the DoE said on X.
DOGE also announced the launch of its transparency website at doge.gov.
The site isn’t fully live yet, but its homepage displays DOGE’s X posts. Other sections include a government org chart and a "massive regulatory state summary" with an "unconstitutionality index."
Two highly anticipated features – cost reduction details and a savings scoreboard – are expected by Valentine’s Day.
"We’ll keep improving the site’s transparency. Let us know what else you want to see!" DOGE posted.
President Donald Trump, who created DOGE to boost government efficiency, praised the agency’s work. He noted it uncovered "massive amounts" of waste, fraud, and abuse.
