Sarah Hyland, the "Modern Family" sensation, at 32, revealed that show producers "insisted" on her donning heels despite battling gout.
"Whenever the cameras rolled, my aim was to give my best performance and remember my lines. As soon as they shouted ‘Cut,’ I'd just crumble," shared Hyland during a heart-to-heart on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s podcast, her fellow "Modern Family" actor.

Ferguson recollected an episode shoot where they were tasked with pushing a car, with Hyland, writhing in "intense pain", relying on crutches.
Bearing gout wasn’t her only challenge. "I had to undergo dialysis. The demand to wear high heels, even before confirming my outfit, was like adding salt to the wound," Hyland stressed. "The pain was simply unbearable."
The "Love Island USA" host has had her fair share of health tribulations. From enduring multiple surgeries, inclusive of two kidney transplants and a laparoscopic operation for endometriosis, her physical suffering often intertwined with mental anguish.
Discussing her trying journey on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", she revealed, "Living almost three decades in constant pain without any prediction of a good day was unimaginably hard."
She confessed contemplating suicide, drafting farewell notes in her mind. "I never penned them, fearing someone might stumble upon them," she admitted. "It became a constant battle."
It was a self-awakening that saved her. "The realization dawned upon me that I had to pull myself out," she stated. A candid conversation with a friend about her depressive state led her to seek professional aid.
The actress, famed for her role as Haley Dunphy, celebrated her union with "Bachelor in Paradise" star, Wells Adams, last summer after numerous postponements due to the pandemic. The nuptials, set amidst the scenic Sunstone Winery in Santa Ynez, saw a reunion of her "Modern Family" tribe, including Sofia Vergara, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and his spouse Justin Mikita, Nolan Gould, and Julie Bowen.
