Simone Biles is an amazing gymnast. She has set the bar so high that no one even comes close to competing with her. However, she sat that bar on the ground at the Tokyo Olympic Games this week as she withdrew from the competition, therefore giving handing victory to the Russians.
Team USA fell behind the Russians after Simone Biles’s disastrous turn at the vault during the team final on Tuesday. Biles cited the emotional stress of being the “head star” of the sport as her reasoning for bowing out. The Russian Olympic Committee eventually won gold at the team finals.
Biles had left open the possibility of competing at the individual events on Thursday but has instead opted out of the remaining Olympic events.
Biles claims that her withdrawal was for her own mental health because she could not handle being front and center. “Whenever you get in a high-stress situation, you kind of freak out. I have to focus on my mental health and not jeopardize my health and well-being,” she said.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama tweeted to Biles on Tuesday and said that despite her pulling out, “we are proud of you and we are rooting for you.”
Am I good enough? Yes, I am. The mantra I practice daily. @Simone_Biles, we are proud of you and we are rooting for you. Congratulations on the the silver medal, Team @USA! 🎊

I am truly mixed on how I feel about the situation. Do I think the Olympics were being unfair for judging Biles differently than others competing in the same competition? Yes, I do. Do I think she had every right to be upset, yes. Do I agree with her withdrawing and letting down her team and country? No, I do not.
I am willing to bet that she will not live this down. At least not for a very long time.
Turning Point founder Charlie Kirk ripped into Biles on Wednesday as a "shame to the country" and added that "we are raising a generation of weak people like Simone Biles."
