Melania Trump spoke to her husband, former President Trump, before writing about her support for abortion in her memoir, she told Maria Bartiromo on Sunday.
"He knew my position since the day we met," she said. "I believe in individual freedom. I want to decide what I want to do with my body."
In her exclusive interview, she added, "The chapter in my book explains what 'my body, my choice' means. Timing and restrictions are key, and I encourage people to read it."
Melania is promoting her upcoming memoir, "Melania." It reveals her stance on abortion, calling it a "fundamental right of individual liberty." This has surprised many of her husband’s supporters.
She wrote in the book, "Women should have the autonomy to make their own choices about having children, free from government interference."
"Why should anyone else decide what a woman does with her own body?" she continued. "A woman’s right to control her body includes the choice to terminate a pregnancy if she wishes."
The revelation sparked controversy. Pro-life advocates criticized her, with some saying it contradicts her Catholic faith.
Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, labeled her views as "anti-feminist" and disempowering.
Others like Lila Rose and Marjorie Dannenfelser also voiced their disagreement. Meanwhile, Joy Behar accused Melania of lying about being pro-choice.
Some questioned the timing of the revelation, so close to the election.
Melania responded, "The book was written months ago. I wanted to be authentic and share my perspective and the truth."
