During a recent appearance on the Tetragrammaton podcast, host Rick Rubin questioned Phil Jackson about his current viewing habits of NBA basketball. Jackson responded by stating that he has become disillusioned with the league's involvement in politics and no longer watches games as a consequence.
Rubin asked Jackson if he still watches the NBA.
“No. I don’t,” Jackson replied.
“You’re sitting there watching the game with your grandkids and y’all think it’s funny when justice passes the ball to equal opportunity,” he continued. “When somebody shows you who they are, believe them.”
“So, stop watching … forever,” he added.
Over the weekend, Jalen Rose, a former NBA player who now works as an analyst for ESPN, criticized Phil Jackson, a renowned NBA coach, for his recent condemnation of the NBA.

According to Jackson, since 2020, the NBA has become excessively politicized and attempted to appeal to a specific demographic, causing it to lose the interest of many individuals, including Jackson himself.
In a video on Sunday, Rose reacted to Jackson's comments by stating: “You can’t make this up.”
“Hall of Fame coach and 11-time champion Phil Jackson claims to have stopped supporting the NBA because it became ‘too political’ when it went into the bubble and was catering to certain audiences by putting slogans on the back of jerseys and Black Lives Matter on the floor,” Rose said. “The same Phil Jackson that won championships with some of the greatest Black athletes in the history of the game – Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant. Made millions on their backs and off their sweat equity.”
