"My View" host Lara Trump slammed Rep. Eric Swalwell’s call to tear down President Donald Trump’s new White House ballroom, calling it absurd and politically desperate. She said the outrage is nothing more than theatrics from Democrats.
"It's ridiculous… we all know that. And everybody should be happy about this [the ballroom]," Trump said on "Fox & Friends First." She added, "But of course, that's Eric Swalwell," pointing to the California Democrat’s history of controversial remarks.
Swalwell urged future Democratic presidential hopefuls to take a pledge to demolish the ballroom, writing on X, "Don’t even think of seeking the Democratic nomination for president unless you pledge to take a wrecking ball to the Trump Ballroom on DAY ONE." His office did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Democrats have criticized the 90,000-square-foot addition, arguing that it symbolizes Trump’s excess. The ballroom will replace the East Wing and follow the classic White House architectural style.
The project is being funded by Trump and private donors, not taxpayers. Construction began earlier this month and would give the White House a dedicated formal event space for the first time in its history.
The Washington Post editorial board defended the project, saying any future Democratic president would likely appreciate having the space to host official functions. Trump agreed with that during her appearance.
"That's amazing… they're exactly right," she said. However, she added, "The only thing I'll disagree with them on is that I don't know when we're going to see another Democrat as president, if this is the way the Democrats are behaving about a beautiful renovation that everyone should be able to enjoy that was long overdue and really necessary at the White House."
