Failed Trump Assassination Suspect's Arrest Reaction Caught on Camera

Deputies arrested a suspect in the attempted assassination of former President Trump in Florida. The arrest was caught on a bodycam video released Monday afternoon.

Ryan Routh, 58, was taken into custody Sunday on Interstate 95. Deputies surrounded his vehicle, according to Martin County Sheriff Will Snyder during a press briefing.

The footage shows deputies ordering Routh to walk backwards with his hands on his head. He surrendered peacefully to the officers.

Routh allegedly hid in the brush at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach. He was armed with an SKS-style rifle, waiting for Trump.

Authorities say Secret Service agents spotted the muzzle of Routh’s rifle through a fence. They fired at him when he was about 300 yards from Trump, who was playing golf.

Routh fled but was arrested after a witness provided authorities with a photo of his vehicle. It helped them locate him quickly.

Sheriff Snyder said Routh was caught near the Palm City exit on I-95. It took officers two miles to coordinate resources and surround his vehicle.

"He was smart, just driving with the flow of traffic," the sheriff said. "I think he thought he got away with it."

On Monday, Routh appeared in federal court. He was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and having a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
