Shaka Hislop, the erstwhile Premier League standout now serving as an ESPN commentator, unexpectedly fainted while live on air during a match telecast featuring AC Milan and Real Madrid at the Rose Bowl this Sunday.
Hislop was in conversation with his fellow presenter, Dan Thomas, at the time of the incident. Upon witnessing Hislop's collapse, Thomas swiftly alerted emergency services. Hislop received immediate medical attention and later in the match, Thomas provided an update on Hislop's condition.
"As it stands, it’s good news. He’s conscious, he’s talking. I think he’s a little embarrassed about it all. He’s apologized profusely. Not a man who likes people to make a fuss of him," Thomas said. "Obviously, far too early to make any sort of diagnosis.
"But the important thing is that Shaka’s conscious and we spoke to his family as well because you can imagine seeing that happen live, there can’t be many more things that could scare you amongst the family. But fortunately, we spoke to his wife and things are looking OK."

Hislop enjoyed a stint with Newcastle United from 1995 to 1998, followed by tenures at West Ham and Portsmouth. He rounded off his playing career with a two-year spell at FC Dallas in Major League Soccer.
In the friendly game that was being broadcast, Real Madrid claimed victory over AC Milan with a score of 3-2.
