Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter, announced on Wednesday that the platform will not penalize users for legitimately questioning scientific claims and media narratives. The new policy is now officially in place for the social media company.
Musk made the announcement amid his recent criticism of those on the left for accepting mainstream media narratives without questioning them.
“New Twitter policy is to follow the science, which necessarily includes reasoned questioning of the science,” Musk tweeted.

In a follow-up tweet, Musk replied to a post from Professor Gad Saad, who shared a video that mocked Dr. Anthony Fauci and his decision to retire as the Republican Party prepares to assume control of the House of Representatives in the coming week.
“Anyone who says that questioning them is questioning science itself cannot be regarded as a scientist,” Musk responded to the video about Fauci.

Before Musk's ownership of Twitter, it was common for users to be suspended or banned for questioning certain scientific topics, particularly those related to COVID-19, vaccines, and transgender issues. With the new official policy, however, users will no longer be penalized for legitimately questioning these claims.
Earlier this week, Musk criticized other social media companies and Google for alleged censorship on their platforms.
