Elon Musk and President Trump Feud Over 'Big, Beautiful Bill'

Elon Musk and President Donald Trump are clashing again—this time over the “Big, Beautiful Bill.” On Thursday, Musk fired back at the president on X, saying Trump owes him credit for winning in 2024. “Without me, Trump would have lost the election,” Musk posted. “Such ingratitude.”

The tech mogul was responding to Trump’s remarks from the Oval Office. Trump said Musk “knew everything” about the bill and only complained once the EV mandates were cut. “I’m very disappointed,” Trump told reporters.

Musk wasn’t having it. He claimed he never even saw the bill before it passed. “This bill was never shown to me even once,” Musk wrote. “It was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!”

The Tesla CEO has dubbed the bill the “Big Ugly Bill.” He’s pushing for what he calls a “Slim, Beautiful Bill” instead. Musk has also resurfaced old Trump posts that echoed his current criticisms.

Trump hit back hard on social media. “Elon went CRAZY!” he wrote. “I took away his EV Mandate that forced people to buy Electric Cars—and he knew I was going to do it!”

Trump also suggested slashing Musk’s federal funding. “The easiest way to save money is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,” Trump said. “I was surprised Biden didn’t do it first!”

House Speaker Mike Johnson also weighed in. He said he was “surprised” by Musk’s criticism and claimed the two had a “great conversation” earlier in the week. “Elon is flat wrong about the bill,” Johnson said.

But not every Republican is siding with Trump. Sen. Rand Paul, Sen. Mike Lee, and Rep. Thomas Massie all backed Musk’s concerns. Sen. John Kennedy added, “Musk is right—Americans are quickly becoming debt slaves.”

The bill has now passed the House. The pressure is on the Senate to approve it before Trump’s July 4 deadline. But with big names clashing, the fight is far from over.
