Donald Trump Jr. dashed hopes that Nikki Haley would be his father's running mate in a social media post on Wednesday.
Speculation about Donald Trump's vice president pick has been high. The former president said he had decided on a candidate and that they would be at his debate against President Joe Biden on Thursday night.
Many Republicans expect Trump to announce his pick at the Republican National Convention. The event will be held July 15-18 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
In February, Trump confirmed several names on his shortlist. These included Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Senator Tim Scott, Representative Byron Donalds, biotech tycoon Vivek Ramaswamy, and former House Democrat Tulsi Gabbard.
Other potential candidates include North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Florida Senator Marco Rubio, and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.
On Wednesday, Mark Levin said there was a "huge" push by wealthy GOP donors and RINO corporate media for Trump to select Haley. This is despite Haley not being on the shortlist.
Trump Jr. quickly shut down those rumors. "Nikki Haley, who served as the puppet of Democrat billionaires and warmongerers, would be a wonderful choice if my dad wants to get impeached within about 7 seconds of being sworn in," Trump Jr. said on X, formerly Twitter. "She's their last hope!"
It's unclear if Trump Jr. knows his father's choice. Trump's campaign warned that anyone claiming to know the pick is lying unless named Donald J. Trump.
Trump ruled Haley out of the running in May. He posted on Truth Social: "Nikki Haley is not under consideration for the V.P. slot, but I wish her well! DJT."
Newsweek reported that Doug Burgum's odds have shortened, making him a strong favorite. The web address trumpburgum.com redirected to Trump's campaign site, sparking more rumors.
Ramaswamy also announced he would attend the Thursday debate between Trump and Biden, fueling speculation that he might be Trump's pick.
