Finance expert Dave Ramsey has interviewed presidents before, but his recent sit-down with former President Donald Trump was different.
"I tried to just sit back and listen," Ramsey said on "Varney & Co." "I wanted to keep it calm, talk ideas, and avoid stump hyperbole. By and large, we did that."
Ramsey praised Trump for being direct and knowledgeable about tax rates and energy. "He understands how energy impacts the economy and how to manage a commodity market from the presidential seat," Ramsey added.
The interview, titled "Can Trump’s Plan Clean Up America’s Financial Mess?" is nearly 25 minutes long and is available on Ramsey's YouTube channel. It touches on inflation, energy dominance, real estate, and even assassination attempts.
"In terms of inflation, people are getting wiped out like never before," Trump said. "They say it’s the highest in 48 years, but I think it’s the highest ever. Energy costs need to come down first."
Ramsey agreed, saying, "If you flood the market with oil, prices drop. It's supply and demand." He pointed out that around 15% of the GDP comes from direct energy production.
Trump argued that lower energy prices would lead to lower interest rates. He even claimed that prices could decrease by 50% in his first year back in office.
Ramsey found that figure hard to believe. "I have no idea about 50%. That didn't make sense to me," he said.
Ramsey has also reached out to Vice President Harris for an interview. In a TikTok post, he shared, "I’ll do the same thing with Vice President Harris if I get the chance."
