House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) has threatened to begin contempt of Congress proceedings against former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for allegedly ignoring subpoenas related to the committee's ongoing probe into the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case.
The committee's bipartisan Subcommittee on Federal Law Enforcement approved motions to subpoena the Clintons and several other high-profile political figures in July, with the subpoenas sent out in early August. The Clintons were originally scheduled to testify on December 17 and 18.
In a press release issued late Friday, Comer stated: "It has been more than four months since Bill and Hillary Clinton were subpoenaed... Throughout that time, the former president and former secretary of state have delayed, obstructed, and largely ignored the committee staff’s efforts to schedule their testimony."
Comer issued a clear warning: "If the Clintons fail to appear for their depositions next week or schedule a date for early January, the Oversight Committee will begin contempt of Congress proceedings to hold them accountable."
A spokesperson for Comer's office added that the Clintons "think they are above the law and are trying to get out of their depositions by using dilatory tactics," asserting, "Time’s up."
When reached for comment, the Clinton Foundation told Fox News Digital to "Ask the Chairman for the letter we sent him, and why he won’t respond to it," without immediately providing a copy of the letter.
The threat comes as the House Oversight Committee released a new batch of photos obtained from Epstein's estate, which included images of the disgraced financier with powerful figures, including both Bill Clinton and President Donald Trump.
In addition to the Clintons, other prominent figures subpoenaed by the committee include former Attorneys General Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Merrick Garland, William Barr, Jeff Sessions, and Alberto Gonzales, as well as former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller. The committee has also issued a subpoena to the Department of Justice for all documents related to the case, and the DOJ has been producing records in compliance.
