Conservative stalwart and past Arizona gubernatorial contender, Kari Lake, officially declared on Tuesday her intention to vie for the Republican Senate nomination in what's anticipated to be one of 2024's most scrutinized races.
"I am not going to retreat. I'm going to stand on top of this hill with every single one of you. And I know you're on my side as I formally announce my candidacy for the United States Senate," said Lake to an enthusiastic crowd in Scottsdale, Arizona. The crowd celebrated the former longtime TV anchor who transitioned into a MAGA advocate and came close to winning the governor's seat the previous year.
She is set to compete against Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, the sole other significant contender for the GOP's nomination. The victor of this contest is expected to challenge Phoenix-area Democrat Rep. Ruben Gallego, who currently leads the pack for the Democratic nomination.
Sitting Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, who transitioned from the Democrat Party to an independent last year, hasn't confirmed if she'll seek re-election.

In the lead-up to her declaration, Lake enhanced her national visibility by actively supporting former President Donald Trump's presidential campaign and advocating for Republican contenders nationwide.
Recently, over just three months, Lake has journeyed through 14 states to feature prominently in events and engage with Republican groups at both state and county tiers. She has also endorsed candidates in various Senate contests.
Following Lake's announcement to run, Lamb stated he was the "only one proven conservative winner" in the Arizona Senate race.
"I am a lifelong conservative who has dedicated my life to protecting Arizonans and keeping them safe when Democrat policies make that job almost impossible. I have been in Arizona fighting for the people that call this great state home. I’m not a talker, I’m a doer, and I win elections. That is what separates me from my opponents," he said.
In response to Lake's declaration, Gallego's campaign anticipated voters would once again choose not to support her, alluding to her previous defeat by the current Democratic Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs.
