'American Idol' Judge Katy Perry Shuts Down 'Biggest Lie' in the Music Industry

Katy Perry has found new inspiration for her upcoming music. She shared this at the "American Idol" Top 10 Tastemaker Event. Now, she creates from a place of happiness and wholeness.

"I feel really happy and whole and loved, so that’s different for an artist because usually you’re writing songs out of pain," Perry explained. She believes artists don't need to suffer to create great work.

Perry, a mother since August 2020, finds motherhood joyous yet challenging. Balancing her career with family life is tricky but rewarding. "The opportunity is there to find that balance," she said.

She expressed the profound impact of motherhood: "Like you climb all these mountains to see the view, and you think that that’s the view that you’re looking for. And honestly, for me, it’s not until I had my child that I realized, actually this is the view I’ve been looking for."

Hints of Perry's new music surfaced recently. Orlando Bloom hinted at new tracks during a "Today with Hoda & Jenna" appearance. Speculation grew when Perry appeared with a "KP6: Top Secret" bag.

"There’s a lot of cool things happening. But, essentially, there’s a schedule," Bloom noted, indicating a busy time ahead for Perry. She plays coy about her plans, telling "Extra," "We’ll see."

Perry's last album "Smile" was released in 2020. She also hinted at new music while discussing her departure from "American Idol" on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

"I mean, I love ‘Idol’ so much. … It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go out and feel that pulse to my own beat," she revealed on Kimmel. She teased that fellow judges knew of her plans.

Perry cherishes her friendships with fellow judges. "My friendship with Luke will never die," she stated, affirming the lasting bond with her colleagues. Despite leaving, she feels a strong connection with them.

The singer expressed how much she’ll miss interacting with "Idol" contestants. Their stories and resilience inspire her, she explained. Perry is fascinated by their journey and evolution.

The top 10 contestants were announced recently, performing Billboard No. 1 hits. Perry is open to any of them winning, emphasizing the importance of hard work beyond the show. "I’m good with any of them winning at this rate, and I’m sad that the two that left. [But] this is just a platform to launch. You gotta hustle, you’re going to hustle even more."
