Aaron Rodgers Gives Travis Kelce a New Nickname Because of His Appearance in Pfizer Commercials

Aaron Rodgers, the quarterback for the New York Jets, has coined a new nickname for Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs. And it's not related to Taylor Swift in any way.

On his regular segment on "The Pat McAfee Show," Rodgers was reflecting on the Jets' recent defeat to the Chiefs. Notably, Swift had been present at the game, marking her second consecutive week watching the Chiefs win. During the discussion, Rodgers nicknamed Kelce "Mr. Pfizer."

This comes after Kelce's recent collaboration with the major pharmaceutical company to endorse its COVID-19 and flu vaccines through advertisements, which have been viewed by Rodgers among many others.

"There’s some sort of moral victory out there that we hung with the champs and that our defense played well," Rodgers said to McAfee about the Jets' performance. "[Kansas City Chiefs quarterback] Pat [Mahomes] didn’t have a crazy game, and ‘Mr. Pfizer,’ we shut him down. He didn’t have a crazy impact game. Obviously he had some yards and stuff, but I felt like for the most part, we played really tough on defense, and played well the last three quarters."

McAfee and A.J. Hawk, an ex-Green Bay Packers linebacker and co-host of the show, couldn't help but laugh as Rodgers, the four-time MVP, attempted to maintain a serious demeanor while discussing the game.

When McAfee probed Rodgers further about his new nickname for Kelce, Rodgers responded, "He’s doing commercials for Pfizer, so I’m sure he’s owning it."

During the game, Rodgers, returning to the Jets' sideline for the first time since his Achilles injury in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, was observed chatting with Kelce. At the time, Kelce was in the midst of his pre-game preparations on the MetLife Stadium field.

Kelce, largely due to his widely-discussed relationship with Swift, was a focal point leading up to the game. However, the specifics of his chat with Rodgers will remain a mystery, at least from Rodgers' perspective.

"I think some things need to be left on the field," he said. "I think it’s a better story when it’s left up to the imagination. I saw some different things and speculation on what we were talking about. But I’ve known him for a long time, so it was a quick chat."

Expanding on the interactions of the day, Rodgers said, "I got to see him, see [Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver] Marquez [Valdes-Scantling], who I love. Got to have a quick chat with Pat about how every time we’re supposed to play each other, one year he got hurt, one year I had ‘COVID toe,’ and obviously this year."

The term "COVID toe" alludes to the toe injury Rodgers experienced in the 2021 season. Initial rumors suggested that his absence from the field was due to a COVID-19-related complication known as "COVID toe."
