On Tuesday, Florida Representative Matt Gaetz and five other Republicans plan to propose a bill that would put a stop to any spending by the House for the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) new headquarters located outside of the District of Columbia.
The legislation titled "The FBI Washington Field Office House Arrest Act" was initially obtained by The Daily Caller. In December 2022, during Nancy Pelosi's tenure as Speaker of the House, Congress authorized $375 million for the construction of a new FBI headquarters. However, Gaetz and other GOP lawmakers are opposed to its construction.
According to reports, there are three potential locations for the construction of the new FBI headquarters, two of which are in Maryland and the other in Virginia.
“There are still good men and women in the FBI whose task and purpose is to defend our country, but the FBI’s weaponized Washington Field Office is rotten to the core. Through our investigations in the Weaponization Subcommittee, we have uncovered extremely disturbing testimony from FBI whistleblowers that the Washington Field Office is targeting Americans who oppose their corrupt political agenda,” Gaetz said to the Daily Caller.

“The cancer at the Washington Field Office has metastasized so large that the entire body is in critical condition. Gifting the FBI a new headquarters larger than the Pentagon would condone, reinforce, and enable their nefarious behavior to levels we have never seen before,” Gaetz continued.
Co-sponsoring the bill alongside Florida Representative Matt Gaetz are Arizona Representative Andy Biggs, North Carolina Representative Dan Bishop, Arizona Representative Paul Gosar, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Wyoming Representative Harriet Hageman.
