Whoopi Goldberg Argues With Republican Over Abortion

On "The View", Whoopi Goldberg engaged in a heated exchange with Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., concerning abortion. The discussion intensified when Goldberg questioned her about why she felt obligated to conform to "someone else's religious beliefs."

Goldberg then posed another question to Mace, inquiring if she desired the government's interference in her family decisions.

Mace started her response with, "I don't want the government," before Goldberg interjected.

"Because the law says you don’t – no law says you have to have an abortion. No law – there’s no law on the books that says you have to have an abortion. Isn’t that my choice if my doctor and I feel that’s the best way for me – because if I’m a nice Jewish girl or if I’m a girl who has a different religious belief, why am I being held to someone else’s religious beliefs?" Goldberg said.

Mace asserted that "at some point" a baby should be granted the "right to life."

Goldberg countered by saying, "But that's your belief."

Mace made the point that individuals can't expect to exclude the government from their decisions while wanting it "both ways."

Expanding on her point, she stated, "But those who want the government to pay for it have the government in the room with the doctor and the woman. You can’t have it both ways."

"Isn’t that your choice to make that decision? Why do you want me to go with your belief when that is not my belief? That’s the part I’m trying to understand," Goldberg asked again.

Mace mentioned that states presently possess the authority to determine their abortion regulations, implying that in places like New York and California, women might opt for an abortion up to nine months.

"No one, no one, no doctor, no hospital, no one will take a baby at nine months for an abortion. I’m telling you," Goldberg emphatically responded. Mace went on to name several Democrats, including President Biden and Vice President Harris, noting that they haven't specified their stance on abortion limits.

Mace, having personally experienced rape, contended that "rapists in blue states" are receiving cash bail, asserting that these rapists have "more rights" than their victims.

Before cutting to a commercial break, Goldberg reiterated her question.

In April, Mace had criticized the GOP, labeling them as "tone-deaf" regarding this issue. She also expressed her belief that Republicans avoided the topic due to fears concerning their base.
