Vice President Harris updated the public on Hurricane Milton during a recent FEMA briefing. She covered her mouth and seemed to inform staff that she was live on air.
President Biden joined the meeting from the White House. Harris participated virtually, receiving updates on critical disaster relief preparations for Florida. The focus was on life-saving measures as the hurricane approached.
During the briefing, Harris had a brief moment of confusion. "It’s a live broadcast," she said, communicating with her team. This happened about 20 minutes after she struggled through her speech.
Harris glanced down frequently, likely checking notes. She addressed the people of Florida directly. "To the people of Florida, and in particular, the people of the Tampa region: We urge you to take this storm seriously," she said.
"This storm is expected to be of historic proportions," she continued. Many in Florida are tough and have faced hurricanes before. But she warned, "This one’s going to be different."
"We ask you that by every measure understand it's going to be more dangerous, more deadly and more catastrophic." Harris urged residents to heed local officials' advice.
"They know what they're talking about. They know what they're doing." She emphasized the importance of evacuation. "If you are told to evacuate, please evacuate immediately. Do not wait until it is too late."
