The White House is celebrating a massive victory for American workers with the reopening of a steel furnace in Granite City, Illinois. The move by U.S. Steel will immediately usher in 400 new jobs for the American heartland.
White House spokesman Kush Desai confirmed the success of the President's economic plan. Desai said, "American Steel, American Jobs — that’s what President Trump promised, and that’s what President Trump is delivering."
The spokesman added that the reopening is the latest proof that President Trump’s tariffs, tax cuts, and deregulation are "delivering for the American worker and safeguarding our national security."
U.S. Steel, the nation's second-largest manufacturer, announced the decision in December to restart its blast furnace after a brief shutdown. CEO David Burritt said the company is confident in its ability to safely operate the mill to meet 2026 demand.
President Trump previously made it clear that American steel is non-negotiable. He stated, "if you don’t have steel, you don’t have a country." He added that a strong steel industry is fundamentally "a matter of national security."
The administration’s celebration comes as they battle Democrat messaging on "affordability." Democrats won several off-season elections by focusing on the high cost of living left over from the previous administration.
Vice President JD Vance called the attack on the administration a "hoax" narrative. Vance told NBC News the idea that the current team is at fault is "totally bulls---."
Vance confirmed the truth about the lingering crisis. He said the administration could not solve "all of the affordability problems created by Democrats" just 11 months after taking office.
