Trump Signs Executive Order to Declassify Files: 'Everything will be revealed'

President Trump signed an executive order Thursday to declassify files on the assassinations of John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr.

During his 2024 campaign, Trump pledged to release the documents.

"Everything will be revealed," Trump said in the Oval Office as he signed the order.

In his first administration, Trump promised to unveil all files related to Kennedy’s assassination. But many records remain classified, even six decades after Kennedy’s death in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.

At the time, Trump withheld hundreds of records after appeals from the CIA and FBI. He stated that the potential risk to national security, law enforcement, and foreign affairs outweighed the public’s need for immediate access.

Now, Trump also vows to release documents tied to Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy. This raises questions about how quickly he can make good on his promise.

By law, the Martin Luther King Jr. Records Collection Act sets 2027 as the release date for King’s remaining files.

Trump’s push for declassification signals his intent to reveal long-held secrets. But the timeline remains uncertain.
