Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen called it an "incredible" moment. He had just witnessed President Trump sign the "No Men in Women's Sports" executive order. Petersen spoke to Fox News Digital about what this means for female athletes.
"I think the impact is huge," he said. The executive order keeps biological males out of women’s sports. It was a key campaign promise, now fulfilled.
"We now have a multi-pronged approach," Petersen explained. "We've passed laws. We've been litigating. Now, the executive branch has stepped in. Title IX will be enforced the way it was intended. Boys are boys. Girls are girls. If you violate this, you’ll lose federal funding and face an investigation. I think it's great news."
He cited polling that shows 70% of Americans support protecting girls' sports. The issue, he said, isn't even close.
Petersen didn’t hold back. "This is why Democrats have a 31% approval rating," he said. "We saw it in Arizona. We increased our majorities. We won competitive races. Trump is making girls’ sports great again. That’s good for America. That’s good for girls." He said it's been "absolutely ridiculous" that girls have trained for years only to have a male competitor take their victory. "It’s unthinkable this was even allowed," he added.
He posted a photo from the event with Riley Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer and activist. Petersen talked about the "disconnect" between voters and Democrat politicians.
"They're totally out of touch," he said. "A small, loud faction is pushing this. But the vast majority of Americans disagree. It’s not just about opinions—it’s about logic and science. Democrats tried to convince America that boys are girls. That’s lunacy. It defies common sense. Voters made it clear they won’t stand for it."
When Trump signed the order, dozens of young female athletes gathered around him. He invited them to the table. Petersen called it "incredible."
"I think it was just relief," he said. "The battle is over. No more stolen titles. No more boys taking away girls' opportunities. It was an adorable moment. We’re just extremely grateful for this president."
He credited Trump’s swift action. "People are sick of empty promises," Petersen said. "Nobody can say Trump isn’t delivering. He’s doing it at a breakneck speed."
Petersen has filed to run for Arizona attorney general. He’s determined to keep fighting.
"I'm the lead defendant in a case to protect the Save Women's Sports Act," he said. "It’s at the Supreme Court right now. Our attorney general refused to defend it. She thinks boys should compete in girls' sports. I disagree. So I'm fighting for it. We’re seeing this through."
