Trump $1 Coin Go On Sale - And The Mint is Charging a Major Markup

The U.S. Mint has begun selling new $1 coins featuring President Donald Trump as part of America’s 250th-anniversary, or semiquincentennial, commemoration.

The 2026 Semiquincentennial President Donald J. Trump $1 Coin went on sale at noon Eastern time on Sept. 2. The Mint announced the release on X, inviting collectors to purchase the coins and saying they were also in circulation. However, the Mint’s own product information makes an important distinction: the Philadelphia-minted coins have a circulating finish but the collector rolls and bags offered for sale have not been released into general circulation. They can nevertheless be used as legal tender.

The coins are available in two product formats:

Product Number of $1 coins Mint price Cost per coin
Roll 25 $61.00 $2.44
Bag 100 $154.50 $1.545

The premium reflects their sale as Mint numismatic products rather than ordinary cash. At face value, the same quantities represent $25 and $100, respectively.

The obverse features Trump’s likeness along with the inscriptions “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the dual date “1776 ~ 2026.” The reverse carries the Presidential Seal, with “250” inscribed on the shield to mark the nation’s semiquincentennial.

The Mint said the coins were struck in Philadelphia, bear no mint mark and have a circulating finish. A limited number include a special July 4 privy mark.

Availability And Limits

The Mint established product limits of 150,000 rolls and 50,000 bags. For the first 24 hours after the Sept. 2 on-sale time, customers could order no more than two of each product per household; that initial order limit was set to end at 2 p.m. ET on Sept. 3.

If every roll and bag sold, the two products would contain up to 8.75 million coins. That is a product-limit figure, not necessarily a final mintage number.
