House Speaker Mike Johnson accused CBS News of cutting key answers from his "Face the Nation" interview. CBS is already facing backlash over editing Vice President Kamala Harris' responses in a recent interview.
While it's common to trim interviews for time, it’s meant to be done with fairness. CBS aired Harris’ answer to a question differently on "60 Minutes," causing scrutiny. Now, Johnson is accusing CBS of doing the same to him, cutting five minutes from his 15-minute interview. He posted examples on social media, letting viewers decide.
Johnson shared his frustration about a visit to North Carolina, where victims of Hurricane Helene hadn’t received proper aid from the Biden-Harris administration. He claims CBS edited out his detailed response. In the CBS version, he mentioned that only two percent of relief funds had been distributed. His longer answer, however, showed his deeper concerns about the lack of help on the ground.
He also posted side-by-side videos showing how CBS edited out his remarks on Virginia’s efforts to clean voter rolls. Johnson explained that Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin was trying to prevent non-citizens from voting, but the Biden administration was opposing it. The aired version cut out these specifics.
A third example involved the Biden administration allowing illegal immigrants into the country, which Johnson said CBS left out. He noted that the House passed a bill to ensure only American citizens could vote, but CBS focused on election issues from 2020 instead.
CBS News hasn’t responded to the accusations. The network has been under fire since airing a chopped-up version of Harris' "Face the Nation" appearance. Many are now calling for the release of full transcripts or unedited videos to clarify the situation.
