Senator Kennedy Urges Trump to Come to Washington for Negotiations

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) appeared on Fox & Friends urging President-elect Donald Trump to step into the ongoing negotiations over the spending bill. Kennedy emphasized that while Trump’s official term starts on Jan. 20, his influence is critical now.

"Let's face it, he's the president now," Kennedy remarked, dismissing the current administration's role and highlighting Trump’s responsibility.

Kennedy suggested Trump meet with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-S.D.) to devise a "skinny CR" (continuing resolution). He also urged Trump to clarify his stance on the debt limit and work to garner Republican support.

"House Democrats won’t back this bill," Kennedy predicted, citing Speaker Johnson's challenge of managing a fragmented Republican caucus. "He’s got a bunch of free-range chickens," Kennedy quipped, noting Johnson will need Trump’s direct involvement to rally the necessary votes.

Kennedy’s comments underline the urgency for Trump to actively shape the legislative agenda ahead of his inauguration.
