The Seattle City Council has requested $100 million in "relief fund" for illegal immigrants who were unable to get the $1,200 relief stimulus.
On Monday the city council passed a resolution requested Gov. Jay Inslee to create at “Washington Worker Relief Fund” to give “economic assistance to undocumented Washingtonians during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Per the Seattle Times, the vote was 9-0 in favor of the resolution.
“Looking out for the most vulnerable in our community is even more critical in times of crisis,” Durkan said, Per the Seattle Times. “It is all the more important to ensure we are not pushing people further into the shadows.”
They are following in the footsteps of California, who provided $75 million in a relief fund for assistance for the approximately 150,000 illegal immigrants in the state. Their program gives $500 per person and up to $1,o00 per household.
The most recent stimulus package, which was pushed through the House through Democrats, will give the next round of stimulus checks to illegal immigrants as well as American citizens. The newly released legislation would grant $1,200 per person of up to $6,000 per household.
