Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, hinted at a possible shift in their campaign strategy. They might drop out to back former President Trump, aiming to prevent a Kamala Harris presidency.
"We are seriously considering how to keep those who have corrupted our democracy out of office," Shanahan said during the "Impact Theory" podcast on Tuesday.
Shanahan, an entrepreneur and attorney, acknowledged two potential paths. One involves staying in the race to bolster the legitimacy of independent candidates. The other option is suspending their campaign and endorsing Trump, potentially giving him a boost against Harris in November.
"Is it worth the risk of a Harris-Walz presidency if we stay in?" she questioned host Tom Bilyeu.
Shanahan also addressed accusations that Kennedy Jr. is a "spoiler candidate." She revealed she invested "tens of millions of dollars" into the campaign with the intention of winning, not just playing a spoiler role.
"We didn’t want to be a spoiler. We wanted to win. We wanted a fair shot," she emphasized.
However, she accused the DNC of sabotage.
"They’ve banned us, shadow-banned us, kept us off stages, manipulated polls, used lawfare, sued us everywhere, even planted insiders to disrupt our campaign and create legal issues," Shanahan stated.
A former Democratic donor, Shanahan expressed deep disappointment in the party she once supported.
"There are two options: stay in and risk a Harris-Walz presidency by drawing votes from Trump, or walk away and join forces with Trump, then explain our decision to our base," she said.
"Not an easy decision," she added.
Earlier this month, The Washington Post reported that Kennedy Jr. reached out to Harris' team about a future Cabinet role. Kennedy Jr. denied this during a recent town hall, calling it "fake news."
"I didn't ask Kamala Harris for a Cabinet position, but I've reached out to all the candidates. I've met with some," he clarified.
Shanahan also dismissed the report during the podcast, labeling it as "mainstream news spinning things to favor their chosen group. Fake news."
