Democratic congressional candidate Shelby Campbell is going viral online for her controversial digital footprint. The 32-year-old single mother running in Michigan has received major backlash for her several internet posts. The videos boast vulgar twerking and obscene remarks that have now racked up millions of views.
In one video, Campbell can be seen squatting over a camera in shorts while responding to a hate comment. She fired back at the critic with a shocking response. “I am a cnt. Great. But would you know a clt if you saw one?” Campbell said in the post.
She also posted a video of herself lip-syncing to a song with extremely explicit lyrics. Another post showed one of Campbell’s two sons sitting on a bed. He was in front of a flag with a marijuana leaf and a vulgar slogan.
A separate post showed Campbell lamenting the fact that none of her family members had donated to her campaign. Her official congressional website also displays four of her own mugshots. The photos are accompanied by a caption from Campbell stating, “Accountability is the only way to learn from our mistakes and grow together as a community.”
The candidate defends her unconventional campaign approach on her website bio. “I’m not here to pretend I’m perfect. I’m not here to smile in your face and stab you in the back later,” Campbell wrote.
She attempts to relate to the working-class voters in her district by highlighting her past employment. “More than half of us work in service, retail, healthcare, or auto jobs. I’ve been a bartender, server, certified nursing assistant, and third-generation auto worker,” Campbell added.
Campbell also addresses her criminal history directly on the campaign site. “I’ve been to jail. I’ve been judged. And I’ve gotten back up, like so many here,” she said.
Campbell is currently running in an overcrowded primary in Michigan. She hopes to unseat Democratic Representative Shri Thanedar. Thanedar has represented the Michigan district since 2021.
