President Trump Responds to 'Very Dumb' Rebuke of Hard-Hitting Tariffs

President Trump isn’t backing down. He blasted Trudeau’s tariffs as "very dumb" and vowed immediate retaliation.

"When he puts a Retaliatory Tariff on the U.S., our Reciprocal Tariff will immediately increase by a like amount!" Trump posted on Truth Social.

Trudeau fired back. He slammed Trump’s 25% tariffs, calling it a "trade war" against America’s "closest partner and ally." He accused Trump of appeasing "a lying, murderous dictator" in Russia while punishing Canada.

"Canadians are reasonable and polite," Trudeau said. "But we will not back down from a fight."

Trudeau addressed Trump directly. "Donald, in the over eight years you and I have worked together, we've done big things," he said. "Two friends fighting is exactly what our opponents around the world want to see."

Trump’s order slapped a 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico. Chinese imports got hit with an extra 10%. Canadian energy—oil, gas, and electricity—now faces an additional 10% tax.

Canada struck back. Retaliatory tariffs on $155 billion in U.S. goods took effect. The first wave hit $30 billion, with another $125 billion coming in 21 days.

"Our tariffs will remain in place until the U.S. tariffs are withdrawn and not a moment sooner," Trudeau declared.

He accused Trump of sabotaging his own "golden age" economic agenda. He called out the administration’s claim that Canada isn’t helping fight illegal fentanyl. "That is totally false," he shot back.

Trudeau expects to speak with Trump soon. "What he wants is a total collapse of the Canadian economy," he said. "We will never be the 51st state." But he warned the tariffs will hurt families on both sides of the border.
