Nevada Man Who Leaped at Judge Faces Charges

A Nevada man who attacked a judge has been charged with trying to kill her. This happened after a shocking video showed the person jumping over the judge's bench in court.

Deobra Redden faces 12 more charges. These include seriously hurting a protected person and attacking someone while being a prisoner. The attack happened on January 3 against Judge Mary Kay Holthus in Clark County District Court, as reported by Fox5 Vegas.

"It’s just something you don’t usually see in court... nothing like this," said Michael Lasso, who helped the judge. He is 27 and works in law. He talked about this on ABC's "Good Morning America."

"I just thought when he first hopped over that desk he was going for the door. And when he didn’t go for the door and instead he starts charging at the judge, I was just in shock and I just reacted," Lasso continued. "I don't even want to think about what would have happened if I wasn't there."

Lasso mentioned that after the fight, there was a lot of blood everywhere.

On Monday, Judge Holthus gave Redden a prison sentence of 19 to 48 months. This was for a crime involving a baseball bat last year.

Before the chaos on January 3, Judge Holthus was about to tell Redden his punishment. The trouble started when Redden was not allowed to be released on bond.

A video from Fox News Digital shows Redden's lawyer asking the judge to give Redden probation.

Judge Holthus said she thought it was time for Redden to experience something different.

In the video, Redden is seen jumping over the bench with his arms and legs spread out. He lands on the judge.

The police report about the courtroom fight says Redden pulled out some of Judge Holthus' hair. This information comes from KSNV, a news station. They also mentioned an interview with the judge in the report, where she called Redden "big, strong and angry."
