Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office is dodging fresh rumors that she could soon step away from Congress.
NBC News reported Monday that Pelosi, D-Calif., is expected to “make an announcement” about her political future after Election Day, with unnamed sources claiming the longtime Democratic power player is planning to retire at the end of her current term.
But when Fox News Digital reached out for clarification, Pelosi’s spokesperson avoided directly addressing any talk of retirement — or even her long-term political plans.
“Speaker Pelosi is fully focused on her mission to win the Yes on 50 special election in California on Tuesday,” Pelosi spokesperson Ian Krager said. “She urges all Californians to join in that mission on the path to taking back the House for the Democrats.”
The “Yes on 50” campaign refers to a Democratic-backed effort in California to temporarily suspend the state’s nonpartisan redistricting commission. The proposal would allow the legislature to draw new congressional maps — maps that would likely favor Democrats heading into the 2026 midterms.
Critics have slammed the initiative as a blatant attempt to manipulate district boundaries for political gain. Supporters, however, argue that it’s a necessary move to level the playing field against Republican-led states that have already redrawn their own maps to their advantage.
Still, the real attention remains on Pelosi herself. At 85 years old, the former Speaker has been a dominant force in Democratic politics for decades — and one of the most recognizable figures in Washington.
